I think that standing up for your country can make you a cool Kiwi because you are fighting for millions of people; running, jumping, hiking, hiding.   You could be flying a plane or driving a tank or first aid truck, jeep or motorbike, driving or attacking from the ground.  You have to have a belief in yourself and be brave to fight in the war for your country.
